Have an Attitude of Gratitude

A sweet short story with a great lesson... worth reading....*

Nearby, a building construction work was going on.

Lots of poor  labourers were working there and their small  children used to hold onto one another's shirt and play "train-train".

Someone would become the engine and others would become bogies

Every day these children used to take turns becoming the engine and bogies ...

But there was  one small boy wearing only a half pant who used to hold one small green cloth in his hand and become the guard daily.

So  once I went to him and asked him .."beta, don't u also wish to become an engine or a bogie some time ?

He softly replied .." Sir , I don't have a shirt to wear so how will the other children catch me to make the train?

I could see the slight wetness in his eyes..

But  It gave me a lesson.... he could have cried and sat at home and abused his parents for not affording to buy  him a shirt.

But instead he chose another way to play and enjoy himself..

In life, we don't get all things we desire and we keep complaining ..

I dont have a bike,  I don't have car , I don't have this or that etc...

Life is like that ....we need to make it beautiful  and be grateful for what we have ..🙏🏼

*HAVE AN ATTITUDE OF GRATITUDE*

Will share a small story that Swami shared:

"As we think, so we become"  said Lord Buddha. "Sow a thought and….reap a destiny" said Swami.
A king was touring his kingdom on his elephant. Suddenly he stopped in front of a shop in the market and said to his minister, "I don't know why, but I want to hang the owner of this shop." The minister was shocked. But before he could ask the king why, the king had moved on. The next day, the minister went to that shop dressed as one of the locals to see the shopkeeper. He casually asked him how his business was faring. The shopkeeper, a sandalwood merchant, reported sadly that he had hardly any customer. People would come to his shop, smell the sandalwood and then go away. They would even praise the quality of the sandalwood but rarely buy anything. His only hope was that the king would die soon. Then there would be a huge demand for sandalwood for performing his last rites. As he was the only sandalwood merchant around, he was sure the king's death would mean a windfall.

The minister now understood why the king had stopped in front of this shop and expressed a desire to kill the shopkeeper. Perhaps, the shopkeeper's negative thought vibration had subtly affected the king, who had, in turn, felt the same kind of negative thought arising within.
The minister; a noble man, pondered over the matter for a while. Without revealing who he was or what had happened the day before, he expressed a desire to buy some sandalwood. The shopkeeper was pleased. He wrapped the sandalwood and handed it over to the minister.

When the minister returned to the palace, he went straight to the court where the king was seated and reported that the sandalwood merchant had a gift for him. The king was surprised. When he opened the package, he was pleasantly surprised by the fine golden color of the sandalwood and its agreeable fragrance. Pleased, he sent some gold coins to the sandalwood merchant. The king also felt sorry in his heart that he had harboured unbecoming thoughts of killing the shopkeeper.

When the shopkeeper received the gold coins from the king, he was astounded. He began to proclaim the virtues of the king who had, through the gold coins, saved him from the brink of poverty. After some time, he recalled the morbid thoughts he had felt towards the king, and repented for having entertained such negative thoughts for his own personal goal.

If we have a good and kind thought for another person, that positive thought will come back to us in a favorable way. But if we harbor evil thoughts, those thoughts will come back to us as retribution.

"What is Karma?" asked Swami.

Many replied, "our words, our deeds, our feelings, our actions......"
Swami shook his head and said

"Your thoughts are your Karma!"

UKG Admission

May be Two years back....one of the proud school in Chennai where all felt admission is impossible!!!

To get UKG admission for my friend's daughter I too went there. For that admission my friend had studied a lot than his daughter .

The child could not understand why they have brought her there. Principal of the school is like "kadalora kavithai Jenifer" (one of the filmy characters). When I smiled at her, she turned & that moment my friend realized there is no benefit by my presence .

When we all were standing, the school principal started to converse with the child....yes in English only. This is one of the most memorable interview I have ever witnessed in my life..

"What's your name?"

"Sarithra"

"Good. Tell me something you know"

"I know many things. Tell me what you want"

Alas, there is no better point for not getting the admission. .Sarithra's mother was trying to make up the situation but Jenifer stopped..

Turning to child,Jenifer said.. "Tell any rhymes or story which you know"
Again,"Which one you want Rhymes or Story?"
Well done, second wicket too gone. Jenifer was little bit angry about the reply
"Ok. .tell me a story"
"You want to hear what I studied or what I wrote"
Taken to surprise, Jenifer asked "Oh you write stories???"
"Why should I not write?"

Now even I was taken aback and whispered to my friend "our whole generation is not going to get admission in this school."
But Jenefier was impressed with the answer. She & including us, would have not heard such a story in our life.

Ok, tell me story which you have written
Sarithra said "Ravanan kidnapped Sita to Srilanka"
Opening scene failed to impress Jenifer but still she encouraged the child to continue
"Rama asked Hanumanâs help to rescue Sita. Hanuman too agreed to help Rama "
"Then?"
"Now, Hanuman called his friend Spider man." No one expected this twist in the story
"Why?"
"Because there are lot of mountains between India and Srilanka..if we have Spiderman we can go easily with his rope."
"But Hanuman can fly isn't it??"
"Yes. But he is having Sanjeevi Mountain on one hand so he cannot fly very fast. "
(I remember Hanuman's picture in ABT parcel service)
Now Jenifer is quiet, after a while Sarithra asked "Should I continue or not?.".
"Ok ok then."

"Hanuman and Spiderman flew to Srilanka and rescued Sita. Sita said Thanks to both"
"Why"
"When you are helped you should say Thanks"
"Ok Ok then."
"Hanuman now called Hulk."
All were surprised. She realized our curiosity and said " Now Sita is there, so to take her safely back to Rama..he called Hulk"
"What logic???" Jenifer asked.
"Hanuman can carry Sita right?"
"Yes. But he has Sanjeevi Mountain in one hand and has to hold spider man on the other"
Jenifier could not control her smiles. " So when they all started to India they met my friend Akshay"
"How come Akshay there now?"

"Because its my story and I can bring any one there"
Now Jenifer didn't get angry but waited for the next twist
Then all started to India and landed at Chennai Velechery bus stop
Now I asked,"Why they have landed In Velechery bus stop? "
"Because they forgot the way..& Hulk got an idea and called Dora"
I came to know about Dora only there.

"Dora came and she took Sita to Velechery Venus Colony...that's all." Finished the story with a smile
Now Jenifer asked "Why venus Colony?"
"Because sita is there & am Sita!!!"
Jenifer was impressed and embraced the child. She has been admitted in UKG & was gifted with a Dora doll.
😂😂😂
Really, kids can really amaze. Sometimes, we clip their wings (read creativity) by expecting them to do things as we see it right.

The Elephant Who Lost An Eye‏

An elephant came to the edge of a stream of clear rushing water.
Being thirsty, the elephant leaned over, dropped its trunk into the
cool water and... plunk!

"What? What happened?" the elephant cried. "I can't see! My eye...
it fell in the water! Oh nooooooh," the elephant wailed in a panic,
"I lost my eye!"

And, in fact, the elephant's right eye had popped out of its
socket and fallen into the stream. The elephant searched frantically
for the eye, groping with its trunk along the bottom of the stream.
The more he groped, the cloudier the water became. That made him panic
even more, and he started churning up great piles of sand, until
he couldn't see anything.

Then the elephant heard the sound of laughing. Furious, he
looked around to see who it was, and saw a little green frog sitting
on a log, laughing and laughing.

"You think this is funny?" the elephant shouted. "I lose an eye
and that makes you laugh?"

"What's funny is to see how upset you are. Calm down and everything
will be fine," the frog replied.

The elephant felt a little ashamed and took the frog's advice.
He stopped moving his trunk around, and soon the water became clearer
as the sand sank to the bottom. And there in the stream lay his eye.
He reached for it with his trunk and popped it back into its socket.
And then he thanked the frog.

....................................................................

This simple parable contains great wisdom. There's nothing funny
about losing an eye... the sudden panic, thrashing around in murky water,
desperation... that's exactly what happens to us when we lose control
and panic. Our haste makes us blind.

We become temporarily incapable of seeing the world around us
objectively and rationally. But there is an antidote to panic: wait.
Wait until the situation becomes clear and the black clouds disperse.

The Wise Farmer

Many years ago, in a poor Chinese village, there lived a farmer and his son.

His only material possession, apart from the land and a small hut, was a horse he had inherited from his father.

One day, the horse ran away, leaving the man with no animal with which to work the land.

His neighbours, who respected him for his honesty and diligence, went to his house to say how much they regretted his loss. He thanked them for their visit, but asked:

"How do you know that what happened was a misfortune in my life?"

Someone muttered to a friend: "He obviously doesn't want to face facts, but let him think what he likes, after all, it's better than being sad about it." And the neighbours went away again, pretending to agree with what he had said.

A week later, the horse returned to its stable, but it was not alone; it brought with it a beautiful mare for company.

The inhabitants of the village were thrilled when they heard the news, for only then did they understand the reply the man had given them, and they went back to the farmer's house to congratulate him on his good fortune. "Instead of one horse, you've got two. Congratulations!" they said.

"Many thanks for your visit and for your solidarity," replied the farmer. "But how do you know that what happened was a blessing in my life?"

The neighbours were rather put out and decided that the man must be going mad, and, as they left, they said: "Doesn't the man realise that the horse is a gift from God?"

A month later, the farmer's son decided to break the mare in. However, the animal bucked wildly and threw the boy off; the boy fell awkwardly and broke his leg.

The neighbours returned to the farmer's house, bringing presents for the injured boy. The mayor of the village solemnly presented his condolences to the father, saying how sad they all were about what had occurred.

The man thanked them for their visit and for their kindness, but he asked:

"How do you know that what happened was a misfortune in my life?"

These words left everyone dumbstruck, because they were all quite sure that the son's accident was a real tragedy. As they left the farmer's house, they said to each other: "Now he really has gone mad; his only son could be left permanently crippled, and he's not sure whether the accident was a misfortune or not!"

A few months went by, and Japan declared war on China. The emperor's emissaries scoured the country for healthy young men to be sent to the front.

When they reached the village, they recruited all the young men, except the farmer's son, whose leg had not yet mended.

None of the young men came back alive. The son recovered, and the two horses produced foals that were all sold for a good price.

The farmer went to visit his neighbours to console and to help them, since they had always shown him such solidarity.

Whenever any of them complained, the farmer would say: "How do you know that what happened was a misfortune?"

If someone was overjoyed about something, he would ask: "How do you know that what happened was a blessing?"

And the people of the village came to understand that life has other meanings that go beyond mere appearance.

The Frogs

A farmer came into chinese town and asked the owner of a restaurant if he could sell him a million frog legs. The restaurant owner was shocked and asked the man where he could get so many frog legs! The farmer replied, "There is a pond near my house that is full of frogs - millions of them. They all croak all night long and they are about to make me crazy!" So the restaurant owner and the farmer made an agreement that the farmer would deliver frogs to the restaurant, five hundred at a time for the next several weeks. The first week, the farmer returned to the restaurant looking rather sheepish, with two scrawny little frogs. The restaurant owner said, "Well... where are all the frogs?" The farmer said, "I was mistaken. There were only these two frogs in the pond. But they sure were making a lot of noise!"

1- Next time you hear somebody criticizing or making fun of you, remember, it's probably just a couple of noisy frogs.

2- Problems always seem bigger in the dark. Have you ever laid in your bed at night worrying about things which seem almost overwhelming like a million frogs croaking? Chances are pretty good that when the morning comes, and you take a closer look, you'll wonder what all the fuss was about.

SUCCESS PRINCIPLES

One day Robby stopped attending the piano lessons. The teacher thought that He had given up and in fact she was quite pleased since she did not give Much hope to Robby. Not long after, the piano teacher was given the task to Organize a piano concert in town. She sent out circulars to invite the Students and public to attend the event.

She just passed away this morning and I wanted Her to hear me play. You see, this is the first time she is able to hear me Play because when she was alive she was deaf and now I know she is listening To me. I have to play my best for her!"

SUCCESS PRINCIPLES
This is indeed a touching story of love and excellence. When you have a Passion and a reason to do something, you will surely excel.

You may not be Talented or gifted but if you have a strong enough reason to do something, You will be able to tap into your inner God given potential.

The Two Falcons

Once there was a king who received a gift of two magnificent falcons from Arabia. They were peregrine falcons, the most beautiful birds he had ever seen. He gave the precious birds to his head falconer to be trained.

Months passed and one day the head falconer informed the king that though one of the falcons was flying majestically, soaring high in the sky, the other bird had not moved from its branch since the day it had arrived.

The king summoned healers and sorcerers from all the land to tend to the falcon, but no one could make the bird fly. He presented the task to the member of his court, but the next day, the king saw through the palace window that the bird had still not moved from its perch. Having tried everything else, the king thought to himself, "May be I need someone more familiar with the countryside to understand the nature of this problem." So he cried out to his court, "Go and get a farmer."

In the morning, the king was thrilled to see the falcon soaring high above the palace gardens. He said to his court, "Bring me the doer of this miracle."

The court quickly located the farmer, who came and stood before the king. The king asked him, "How did you make the falcon fly?"

With head bowed, the farmer said to the king, " It was very easy, your highness. I simply cut the branch of the tree where the bird was sitting."

Moral :-
We are all made to fly - to realize our incredible potential as human beings. But instead of doing that, we sit on our branches, clinging to the things that are familiar to us. The possibilities are endless, but for most of us, they remain undiscovered. We conform to the familiar, the comfortable, the mundane. So for the most part, our lives are mediocre instead of exciting, thrilling and fulfilling. So let us learn to destroy the branch of fear we cling to and free ourselves to the glory of flight..

Self Appraisal

A little boy went into a drug store, reached for a soda carton and pulled it over to the telephone. He climbed onto the carton so that he could reach the buttons on the phone and proceeded to punch in seven digits (phone numbers).

The store-owner observed and listened to the conversation.

Boy: ‘Lady, Can you give me the job of cutting your lawn?
Woman: (at the other end of the phone line): ‘I already have someone to cut my lawn.’

Boy: ‘Lady, I will cut your lawn for half the price of the person who cuts your lawn now.’
Woman: I’m very satisfied with the person who is presently cutting my lawn.

Boy: (with more perseverance) : ‘Lady, I’ll even sweep your curb and your sidewalk, so on Sunday you will have the prettiest lawn in all of Palm beach , Florida.’

Woman: No, thank you. With a smile on his face, the little boy replaced the receiver. The store-owner, who was listening to all this, walked over to the boy. Store Owner: ‘Son… I like your attitude; I like that positive spirit and would like to offer you a job.’

Boy: ‘No thanks.’
Store Owner: But you were really pleading for one.

Boy: No Sir, I was just checking my performance at the Job I already have. I am the one who is working for that lady I was talking to!’

Moral: This is what we call ‘Self Appraisal’.  Every time if we don’t get ahead of others, we blame others for it.  We should look to our self and compare, find our weaknesses and work hard to throw away weaknesses.  Always Work Hard, Honest and with full Dedication.  It will always pay up.

The Gold Ring

The young man was climbing the hill, slowly a step at a time. His bowed
head seemed to indicate that something was bothering him. Perhaps he was
lonely, or discouraged. He was coming to seek guidance from the wise man that lived on the hill on the outskirts of town.

Entering the counsellor's house, the young man found him reading, deep in
thought.

"Excuse me, sir," he said hesitantly. The old man lifted his eyes. Timidly, with a courteous bow and a voice of desperation, the young man said, "I have come seeking your help … sir." After a short pause, he continued, "I have dreams that I believe I can achieve, but no one thinks I have the ability to reach them. People see little value in me."

The old man continued his reading. After a while, he said, "Before I can
give you any counsel, I need your help. Are you willing?" Somewhat
disappointed for having his own needs ignored, the young man nevertheless
responded, "I will try, sir."

The wise man stood up. Stretching himself a bit, he said, "I may need to
pay a large debt in the future, for which I will need money. Here is my gold
ring. Take it to the market and find out how much I can get for it, but
don't settle for anything less than five gold coins. There is my horse.
Go!"

The young man held onto the ring tightly and upon reaching the market place, went from stall to stall, offering it in exchange for cash. The fruit seller ignored him. The clothes merchant told him that he was not interested. The farmer selling chickens continued to bargain with a customer and waved him away.

Finally, the young man reached the pig seller's stall. After examining the ring for a while in his dirty hand, he said with a covetous smirk, "Tell the owner that I am willing to give him five bronze coins for this."

"I fulfilled your assignment, sir," said the young man upon his return. "No one in the market is willing to give five gold coins for your beautiful ring."

"That's fine," responded the wise man. Now we know how little the market people value this ring. Go to the jeweller in town and show it to him."
When the jeweller saw the gold ring, he quickly stood up and used a silk handkerchief to hold it carefully. Bring it under a lamp, he examined it in detail with a magnifying glass. "A masterpiece," he said softly. "If the owner of the ring is in a hurry, I will buy it for 10 gold coins myself. But if he gives me time to bring out all its beauty, I shall find a wealthy customer willing to pay at least 20 gold coins for it."

The wise man listened attentively to the report the happy young man brought back and then told him, "Don't let the ignorant tell you the value of something they know nothing about. Listen only to the appraisal of the skilled specialist, the one who can recognize the true value of a master artist's work."

And with a smile, the wise man placed the golden ring back on his finger
and waved the young man good-bye.

Child's Love

My wife called, 'How long will you be with that newspaper? Will you come here and make your darling daughter eat her food?' I tossed the paper away and rushed to the scene. My only daughter Sindu looked frightened.

Tears were welling up in her eyes. In front of her was a bowl filled to its brim with Curd Rice. Sindu is a nice child, quite intelligent for her age.She has just turned eight. She particularly detested Curd Rice. My mother and my wife are orthodox, and believe firmly in the 'cooling effects' of Curd Rice! I cleared my throat, and picked up the bowl. 'Sindu, darling, why don't you take a few mouthful of this Curd Rice?Just for Dad's sake, dear.

Sindu softened a bit, and wiped her tears with the back of her hands. 'OK, Dad. I will eat - not just a few mouthfuls, but the whole lot of this. But, you should...' Sindu hesitated. 'Dad, if I eat this entire curd Rice, will you give me whatever I ask for?'....... ....Oh sure, darling'.... 'Promise? '........ .........

'Promise'. I covered the pink soft hand extended by my daughter with mine, and clinched the deal.

'Ask Mom also to give a similar promise', my daughter insisted. My wife put her hand on Sindu's, muttering 'Promise'.

Now I became a bit anxious. 'Sindu dear, you shouldn't insist on getting a computer or any such expensive items.Dad does not have that kind of money right now. OK?'

'No, Dad. I do not want anything expensive'.Slowly and painfully, she finished eating the whole quantity.

I was silently angry with my wife and my mother for forcing my child eat something that she detested. After the ordeal was through, Sindu came to me with her eyes wide with expectation.

All our attention was on her......... ....'Dad, I want to have my head shaved off, this Sunday!' was her demand.
'Atrocious!' shouted my wife, 'A girl child having her head shaved off? Impossible!' 'Never in our family!' my mother rasped.'She has been watching too much of television. Our culture is getting totally spoiled with these TV programs!'

Sindu darling, why don't you ask for something else? We will be sad seeing you with a clean-shaven head.' 'No, Dad. I do not want anything else', Sindu said with finality.
'Please, Sindu, why don't you try to understand our feelings?' I tried to plead with her.

'Dad, you saw how difficult it was for me to eat that Curd Rice'. Sindu was in tears. 'And you promised to grant me whatever I ask for. Now, you are going back on your words. Was it not you who told me the story of King Harishchandra, and its moral that we should honor our promises no matter what?'

It was time for me to call the shots. 'Our promise must be kept.'

'Are you out your mind?' chorused my mother and wife.

'No. If we go back on our promises, she will never learn to honor her own. Sindu, your wish will be fulfilled.'

With her head clean-shaven, Sindu had a round-face, and her eyes looked big and beautiful.

On Monday morning, I dropped her at her school. It was a sight to watch my hairless Sindu walking towards her classroom. She turned around and waved. I waved back with a smile. Just then, a boy alighted from a car, and shouted, 'Sinduja, please wait for me!'

What struck me was the hairless head of that boy. 'May be, that is the in-stuff', I thought.

'Sir, your daughter Sinduja is great indeed!' Without introducing herself, a lady got out of the car, and continued,' That boy who is walking along with your daughter is my son Harish. He is suffering from... ... leukemia.' She paused to muffle her sobs. Harish could not attend the school for the whole of the last month. He lost all his hair due to the side effects of the chemotherapy. He refused to come back to school fearing the unintentional but cruel teasing of the schoolmates. 'Sinduja visited him last week, and promised him that she will take care of the teasing issue.

But, I never imagined she would sacrifice her lovely hair for the sake of my son!
Sir, you and your wife are blessed to have such a noble soul as your daughter.'
I stood transfixed. And then, I wept. 'My little Angel, you are teaching me how self-less real love is!'

Management Lessons from a 500 rupee note

Prakash Iyer, Managing Director, Kimberly-Clark Lever and Executive Coach shares two important management lessons he learnt from a 500-rupee note. Read on.

1. It happened some years ago but I can recall the evening like it happened just last week.
I was in an audience listening to a motivational guru.
The speaker whipped out his wallet and pulled out a five hundred-rupee note.
Holding it up, he asked, "Who wants this five hundred rupee note?"
Lots of hands went up. Including mine.
A slow chorus began to build as people began to shout "Me!" "Me!"
I began to wonder who the lucky one would be who the speaker would choose. And I also secretly wondered -- and I am sure others did too -- why he would simply give away five hundred rupees.
Even as the shouts of "I want it" grew louder, I noticed a young woman running down the aisle. She ran up onto the stage, went up to the speaker, and grabbed the five hundred-rupee note from his hand. "Well done, young lady," said the speaker into the microphone.
"Most of us just wait for good things to happen. That's of no use. You've got to make things happen."
The speaker's words have stayed with me ever since.

'Simply thinking about doing something is of no use'

Our lives are like that. We all see opportunities around us. We all want the good things.
But the problem is we don't take action.
We all want the five hundred rupee notes on offer. But we don't make the move. We look at it longingly
Get up, and do something about it. Don't worry about what other people might think. Take action.

2. Several years later, it was another day, another time.
And another motivational guru.
As I watched him pull out a five hundred rupee note and hold it up for all to see, I thought I knew what he was going to do next. But he just asked a simple question. "How much is this worth?"
"Five Hundred rupees!" the crowd yelled in unison.
"Right," said the speaker. He then took the note and crumpled it into a ball and asked "How much is it worth now?"
"Five Hundred rupees!" screamed the audience.
He then threw the note on the ground, stamped all over it and picked up the note and asked one more time: "And how much is it worth now?"
"Five Hundred rupees!" was the response.
"I want you to remember this," said the speaker.
"Just because someone crumples it, or stamps on it, the value of the note does not diminish.
We should all be like the five hundred rupee note.
In our lives, there will be times when we feel crushed, stamped over, beaten. But never let your self-worth diminish. Just because someone chooses to crush you -- that doesn't change your worth one bit!
Don't allow your self-worth to diminish because someone says something nasty -- or does something dirty -- to you."

Do not waste your youth period.

We are born into this world. When we enter to the world everything is new. Whatever we saw makes us happy. We also cry in the beginning when we have a challenge that we have not faced before. And after some period we begin to learn to handle the challenges in life. We are not crying for small things. Then our life goes on.

Years pass by. For some who face challenges in life in the beginning itself, he began to set a goal and his mind is focused on to achieve it. He dedicates everything and with hard work he achieves it. When you start growing. That stage youth is the biggest stage. Whatever you read will sit in your mind. Whatever you think at those years will shape your life. Your brain is at the fastest growing stage at this age so is your body. If you try to enjoy your life at that stage, then your life will be miserable.

This is a stage where Whatever you do can be made happen. New Ideas will start popping out. The stage where you can take risk. So what is being said to you at this age will have an impact on you. There is a famous proverb. "If you did not bend on age 5 you can’t bend at age 50." So understand this and start doing activities which will improve your knowledge and doing things which will shape your life.

The Son

Take my Son.....

A wealthy man and his son loved to collect rare works of art. They had everything in their collection, from
Picasso to Raphael. They would often sit together and admire the great works of art..

When the Vietnam
conflict broke out, the son went to war. He was very courageous and died in battle while rescuing another soldier. The father was notified and grieved deeply for his only son.

About a month later, just before Christmas,

There was a knock at the door. A young man stood at the door with a large package in his hands..

He said, 'Sir, you don't know me, but I am the soldier for whom your son gave his life. He saved many lives that day, and he was carrying me to safety when a bullet struck him in the heart and he died instantly... He often talked about you, and your love for art.' The young man held out this package. 'I know this isn't much. I'm not really a great artist, but I think your son would have wanted you to have this.'

The father

Opened the package. It was a portrait of his son, painted by the young man. He stared in awe at the way the soldier had captured the personality of his son in the painting. The father was so drawn to the eyes that his own eyes welled up with tears. He thanked the young man and offered to pay him for the picture.. 'Oh, no sir, I could never repay what your son did for me. It's a gift.'

The father hung the portrait over his mantle. Every time visitors came to his home he took them to see the portrait of his son before he showed them any of the other great works he had collected.

The man died a few months later. There was to be a great auction of his paintings. Many influential people gathered, excited over seeing the great paintings and having an opportunity to purchase one for their collection.

On the platform sat the painting of the son. The auctioneer pounded his gavel. 'We will start the bidding with this picture of the son. Who will bid for this picture?'

There was silence...

Then a voice in the back of the room shouted, 'We want to see the famous paintings. Skip this one.'

But the auctioneer persisted. 'Will somebody bid for this painting? Who will start the bidding? $100, $200?'

Another voice angrily. 'We didn't come to see this painting. We came to see the Van Gogh's, the Rembrandts. Get on with the Real bids!'

But still the auctioneer continued. 'The son! The son! Who'll take the son?'

Finally, a voice came from the very back of the room. It was the longtime gardener of the man and his son. 'I'll give $10 for the painting...' Being a poor man, it was all he could afford.

'We have $10, who will bid $20?'

'Give it to him for $10. Let's see the masters.'

The crowd was becoming angry. They didn't want the picture of the son.

They wanted the more worthy investments for their collections.

The auctioneer pounded the gavel.. 'Going once, twice, SOLD for $10!'

A man sitting on the second row shouted, 'Now let's get on with the collection!'

The auctioneer laid down his gavel. 'I'm sorry, the auction is over.'

'What about the paintings?'

'I am sorry. When I was called to conduct this auction, I was told of a secret stipulation in the will... I was not allowed to reveal that stipulation until this time. Only the painting of the son would be auctioned. Whoever bought that painting would inherit the entire estate, including the paintings.

The man who took the son gets everything!'

Money is not EVERYTHING.
This may surprise few but is a fact.

Five Great Lessons

1 - Most Important Lesson - "Remember my name"

During my second month of college, our professor gave us a pop quiz. I was a onscientious student and had breezed through the questions, until I read the last one: "What is the first name of the woman who cleans the school?"
Surely this was some kind of joke. I had seen the cleaning woman several times. She was tall, dark-haired and in her 50s, but how would I know her name? I handed in my paper, leaving the last question blank.

Just before class ended, one student asked if the last question would count toward our quiz grade. "Absolutely," said the professor. "In your careers, you will meet many people. All are significant. They deserve your attention and care, even if all you do is smile and say 'hello'.

I've never forgotten that lesson. I also learned her name was Dorothy.

2 - Second Important Lesson - " Pickup in the Rain"

One night, at 11:30 PM, an older African American woman was standing on the side of an Alabama highway trying to endure a lashing rainstorm.

Her car had broken down and she desperately needed a ride. Soaking wet, she decided to flag down the next car. A young white man stopped to help her, generally unheard of in those conflict-filled 1960s.

The man took her to safety, helped her get assistance and put her into a taxicab. She seemed to be in a big hurry, but wrote down his address and thanked him. Seven days went by and a knock came on the man's door. To his surprise, a giant console color TV was delivered to his home.
A special note was attached. It read: "Thank you so much for assisting me on the highway the other night. The rain drenched not only my clothes, but also my spirits Then you came along. Because of you, I was able to make it to my dying husband's bedside just before he passed away. God bless you for helping me and unselfishly serving others."

Sincerely,

Mrs. Nat King Cole.

3. - Third Important Lesson - "Always Remember Those Who Serve."

In the days when an ice cream sundae cost much less, a 10 year old boy entered a hotel coffee shop and sat at a table. A waitress put a glass of water in front of him. "How much is an ice cream sundae?" he asked. "Fifty cents," replied the waitress.
The little boy pulled his hand out of his pocket and studied the coins in it.   "Well, how much is a plain dish of ice cream?" he inquired. By now more people were waiting for a table and the waitress was growing impatient.
 "Thirty-five cents," she brusquely replied."

The little boy again counted his coins. "I'll have the plain ice cream," he said. The waitress brought the ice cream, put the bill on the table and walked away. The boy finished the ice cream, paid the cashier and left. When the waitress came back, she began to cry as she wiped down the table. There, placed neatly beside the empty dish, were two nickels and five pennies.

You see, he couldn't have the sundae, because he had to have enough left to leave her a tip.

4 - Fourth Important Lesson - "The Obstacle in Our Path"

In ancient times, a King had a boulder placed on a roadway. Then he hid himself and watched to see if anyone would remove the huge rock. Some of the king's wealthiest merchants and courtiers came by and simply walked around it. Many loudly blamed the king for not keeping the road clear, but none did anything about getting the stone out of the way.

Then a peasant came along carrying a load of vegetables. Upon approaching the boulder, the peasant laid down his burden and tried to move the stone to the side of the road. After much pushing and straining, he finally succeeded.

After the peasant picked up his load of vegetables, he noticed a purse lying in the road where the boulder had been. The purse contained many gold coins and a note from the king indicating that the gold was for the person who removed the boulder from the roadway.

The peasant learned what many of us never understand.

Every obstacle presents an opportunity to improve our condition.

5 - Fifth Important Lesson - "Giving When it Counts"

Many years ago, when I worked as a volunteer at a hospital, I got to know a little girl named Liz who was suffering from a rare and serious disease. Her only chance of recovery appeared to be a blood transfusion from her 5-year old brother, who had miraculously survived the same disease and had developed the antibodies needed to combat the illness.

The doctor explained the situation to her little brother, and asked the little boy if he would be willing to give his blood to his sister. I saw him hesitate for only a moment before taking a deep breath and saying," Yes, I'll do it if it will save her."

As the transfusion progressed, he lay in bed next to his sister and smiled, as we all did, seeing the color returning to her cheek. Then his face grew pale and his smile faded. He looked up at the doctor and asked with a trembling voice, "Will I start to die right away?"

Being young, the little boy had misunderstood the doctor; he thought he was going to have to give his sister all of his blood in order to save her.

You see, after all, understanding and attitude, are everything.

Learn Life from Animals

A person was tired of facing difficulties again and again in life. He was fed up with life and decided to sucide. God stopped him and came before him. The person asked god why did he save him. He said that he was fed up with life because he was facing troubles repeatedly. God took him to jungle. There a small lion was chasing a zebra for its lunch. This was the first time the lion was hunting without any big lions around  it. Usually at least one big lion will be with him while he was hunting and so the small lion will get its lunch easily. But today it is not the case, the lion was left alone to catch its own meal.

The lion spots a zebra and tries to chase it and kill it. The lion chases the zebra but couldn't kill it as the zebra was big and experienced. The zebra has escaped from the clutch of this lion.
The zebra has escaped this lion as of now. But tomorrow another big lion may chase it up and may or may not kill the zebra.

God said, if the zebra thought that why he has to face this life going struggle daily again and again he would not have grown this big. God also said that you may respond that it doesn't have a brain.
The god asked the person to look at the lion again.

As we have seen the same lion was tired chasing this zebra and couldn't get its food. It began to search for its lunch and at that time  it spotted a raccoon moving. I would like to remember you again that the lion was small and was hunting for the first time alone. He got no big experience in hinting. The small lion began to chase the raccoon and the raccoon started climbing a tree to escape from the lion and climbed to the top of the tree.

The lion started to climb the tree, The lion  thought it could chase the racoon and get it caught by climbing the tree. It tried hard and started climbing the tree a little. It then began to realize that it cannot be able to proceed further as the racoon does. It began to felt defeat and then thought it will descend the tree and find another lunch.

A cat can jump from heights and will not get hurt as it is of small weight. But it is not the case of the lion as it is of huge weight. To climb down the tree is the toughest part than climbing up. The reason being it has to bring down its entire weight while coming down. The lion faced many challenges like it got its head caught in a tree trunk and later finally come down.

Generally Big lions dont chase raccoons and climb trees because the lion knows that it cannot climb trees like raccoons by way of experience. This denotes that it also had thinking ability to know that it cannot be able to climb after it tried at least once. So comming back to the zebra , the god said that the troubles for the zebra and you are somewhat same. But I would say that you are far better than the Zebra.

The reason being the zebra has the risk of loosing its life. So  life is full of troubles for every living being in earth. If you started facing it positively, you will survive out of it and become sharper. It is not that every struggle will hit you, it will only mould you more. So start to change your mind to face the struggles instead of thinking why i am having problems again and again in life. Try to beat this and come up in life as life is a struggle.
